How Emergency Dentistry Can Save Your Smile

Dental emergencies have a knack for showing up at the worst times, right? But emergency dentistry in Beaverton, OR, is here to save the day. Here’s why emergency dentistry is a win for your smile and your sanity.

Fast Relief When You Need It Most

There’s nothing worse than sitting around in pain, hoping it goes away. With emergency dentistry, there's no waiting for an appointment weeks from now. Our team will see you as soon as possible.

Preventing Bigger Problems

A little toothache can turn into a big problem if left untreated, but emergency dentistry stops issues in their tracks. Early treatment means you’re avoiding more pain, more damage, and potentially more expensive treatments later on.

Comfort and Peace of Mind

Dental emergencies can be stressful, but knowing there’s a dentist in Beaverton who’s got your back is a huge comfort. Emergency dentistry helps you feel calm, cared for, and confident that everything’s going to be okay.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Here are some tips for handling your dental emergency until you get to our Beaverton dental office. These tips are not a substitute for professional care. Treating the problem sooner rather than later means less pain and a reduced need for more complex treatment in the future.

Toothache, Jaw Pain, or Swelling

Emergency Dentist Diagram | Beaverton DentistA mild toothache is a sign of a developing problem that needs treatment to prevent it from worsening. Severe tooth pain is a sign that decay or inflammation has reached the nerve and requires prompt canal treatment to save the tooth and relieve the pain.

For temporary relief, swish warm salt water around your mouth, apply a cold compress to the affected area, and take a store-bought pain medication like ibuprofen.

Broken Tooth or Lost Crown or Filling

You may not need immediate treatment in these situations unless you are in pain, but you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Try temporarily placing the crown back on the tooth or keep it in a safe place until you get to our office. For a broken tooth or lost filling, gather whatever pieces you find and bring them to your emergency dental appointment.

Food Stuck between Teeth

If you have a mild toothache, it may be due to a food particle stuck between your teeth. Try gently flossing between teeth to remove it, but never use a sharp or pointy object to dislodge it. If it stays stuck, call us, and we’ll be happy to help you.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out tooth is urgent because the longer it’s out of the socket, the less chance we have of saving it. When handling the tooth, hold it by the crown only, and do not touch the root!

The best place for the tooth is back in the socket, so try reinserting it gently. If you can’t, place it between your cheek and gums or in a container of milk or saliva. Do not use tap water.
