Dental Inlays and Onlays in Beaverton

Sometimes, a tooth is too damaged for a filling but not damaged enough to warrant a full dental crown. Our solution at Neish Dentistry is custom-made high-quality inlays and onlays using advanced CEREC technology for same-day results.

Why Inlays and Onlays Fit Our Holistic Approach

inlays going on a tooth in beavertonDr. Bryan Neish’s holistic approach to dental care focuses on preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible while ensuring optimal health and function. Inlays and onlays are minimally invasive restorations that provide a conservative option for teeth that are too damaged for a filling but not damaged enough to warrant a dental crown. Because they help us maintain the tooth's integrity, these restorations align perfectly with our commitment to holistic and biological dentistry.

What Are Inlays and Onlays in Beaverton?

These restorations are similar in that they are a conservative alternative to a full crown, but their uses are different:

  • Inlays—We use inlays to restore a tooth's chewing surface. They fit within the tooth's grooves without extending over the cusps or points. They are ideal for treating decay or damage within the tooth's indented top surfaces.
  • Onlays —  Onlays are similar to inlays but extend to cover one or more tooth cusps. We typically use them when damage or decay is more extensive, covering a larger area than an inlay but less than a full crown.

Why Choose Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are restorations that fit between or over the cusps of teeth, respectively. They are more than a tooth-colored filling but not as robust as a dental crown. Below, we share key reasons to choose these restorations.

Tooth Protection

If you have a damaged or decayed tooth but the issue is not significant enough for a tooth crown, an inlay or onlay may be the best solution.

Tooth Saving

An inlay or onlay allows you to keep more of your natural tooth's structure. With a crown, sometimes the dentist has to prepare more of the tooth.

Strong Restoration

Inlays and onlays are more substantial than dental fillings. They stand up to wear and tear and are ideal when a tooth needs more than a filling but not quite a crown.

Great experience with Neish Dentistry! I'll be honest, I HATE going to the dentist (admitting that makes me feel like a five year old!). But they made the visit painless.

Process for CEREC Inlays and Onlays

Dr. Neish uses CEREC to create same-visit tooth restorations, including inlays and onlays. The process begins with an exam to determine the extent of the damage and see if an inlay or onlay is the best restoration for your needs. This includes conversing with Dr. Neish, discussing your needs, and carefully explaining your treatment options.

Next, the CEREC process begins!

onlays being placed on a tooth Using CEREC technology, Dr. Neish takes precise digital impressions of your tooth. This eliminates the messy, goopy impression material and ensures a perfect fit for your restoration. He then designs your inlay or onlay using advanced CEREC software and sends the digital design to our in-house milling unit, which crafts your restoration from high-quality ceramic while you wait.

Once the inlay or onlay is ready, Dr. Neish carefully places it on your tooth. He ensures a proper fit and adjusts it to accommodate your bite. Once you and the dentist are both satisfied with the result, he cements the restoration securely to your tooth using a strong dental adhesive.

Why Choose Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are excellent choices if you want a conservative, durable, and aesthetically pleasing solution for damaged or decayed teeth. They fit seamlessly with Dr. Neish’s holistic approach because the goal is to preserve natural tooth structure and support overall health.
